Pray for Sound
Pray for Sound had its origins as a solo studio project started by Bruce Malley in late 2011. He had been diagnosed with a large destructive cyst called a cholesteatoma growing inside his left ear that inhibited his hearing. Despite doctors’ best efforts, he was left with severe hearing loss, tinnitus, and recurring pain. To many musicians and songwriters such a development would be a death sentence, but Malley used his ordeal as inspiration, translating these intensely emotional experiences into instrumental post-rock compositions. Steve Aliperta, Joe Aylward, Chris LaRocque, and Nick Stewart were recruited to help Malley bring Pray for Sound to the stage, and the band quickly made a name for themselves in their native Boston area.
The third release from Pray for Sound, Everything Is Beautiful, communicates the dichotic concept of light vs. dark without a single spoken word. As the follow up to the band’s 2014 album Dreamer, Everything Is Beautiful marks an all in decision to dedicate their energies towards the band. “The five of us left our ‘real lives’ behind in Massachusetts and relocated up to Glover, Vermont for eight days with all our music equipment,” recalls Malley. “No distractions or stress.” Removing all societal participation built quite a euphoric experience for the band, and allowed them to find renewed creativity in their songwriting. Eleven new songs found on Everything Is Beautiful feature turbulent guitar riffs and heart pounding drums accompanied by sweeping and all encompassing undercurrents of sound that evoke the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Tycho, and Explosions in the Sky. “We discovered a newfound excitement for the music we were making,” says Malley of the time spent writing and recording Everything Is Beautiful. “We took our time to finish our ideas, and the end result is something we're all incredibly proud of.”
Everything Is Beautiful was written, recorded, produced, and mixed by the band themselves. Pray for Sound will begin hinting new songs and content from Everything Is Beautiful beginning September 2nd, 2016 as pre-orders for the album begin. The band is accompanied by a united release from I Am Shark, AM/FM Records, and Dunk! Records (UK) coordinating a full-length release via Digital/CD/Vinyl/Merch on September 23rd, 2016.
Hemlok - it's simply not what you expect!
Progressive, hard rock, experimental, balladic, pastoral, avant-garde...all these words have been applied to the band, but they defy the concept of one idea with another...
To some, they're the band with the rock song with the bowed guitar at the beginning....to others, they're the band with the 3-part harmony and the violin taking the lead...to yet still others, they're the band with the unpronounceable Lovecraft-inspired instrumental with violin and fuzz guitar taking the reigns...and still more expect them to be the band with the melodic songs that twist, turn, and encircle solid lyrics and melodies.
Be it the New England venues of Dusk or Firehouse 13; the stages of the Keene Music Festival, Freakfest, or Templecon; or stages as far away as mainland Europe - Hemlok has graced many stages and continued to defy categorization. The ideas at the center of the band though, allow for this chameleonic existence: Strong melodies, solid songcraft, and instrumental experimentation.
And instrumentally, there's no limit to the imagination on display either. Not only employing the unusual presence of electric violin, Hemlok also features such eccentricities as bowed/ebowed guitar, theremin, electric sitar, and many more. All of these coalesce into SONGS, solid in concept and rich in instrumental themes. From all their diverse influences, the central conceit on Hemlok remains founded on the ideas that nothing is out of bounds, but all is bound by the song and music at hand.
Hemlok continue now with these ideas, and new CD is coming VERY soon. Follow the links for more music/information and music....or give us a shout right here!
A powerful metal band born from the wake of "Along Came The Flood", creating powerful music encompassing a wide spectrum of emotions and musical influences
Glacier is made up of five guys who like playing long, sad songs together.
We released our first record 'Concave', in May, 2013. It was recorded in the middle of the night, in a freezing church basement by ourselves and some friends.
'Kirtland' and 'Black Beacon' were released together in August of 2014. The songs are longer, darker, and sadder and are the clearest representation of what we've always wanted to do. The records are available digitally through iTunes, Spotify and Amazon MP3 among others.
