Starkill

(facebook)

Starkill formed when brothers Parker Jameson and Spencer Weidner started writing and jamming together as teens. They had difficulties forming a band in their hometown due to the lack of like-minded, capable musicians which in turn prompted Parker to enroll in Indiana University's music program. This led to meeting Charlie Federici, who shared similar influences and musical direction. With Charlie joining forces with Parker and Spencer, the core of the band was formed. The three started writing music influenced by bands like Nightwish, Dimmu Borgir and Trivium.

After a few incarnations and experiments with sound and image, Starkill signed to Century Media in Fall/Winter of 2012, and then released their first album "Fires of Life" in May of 2013. North American and European tours followed with Wintersun, and Amorphis in 2013 as well as Turisas in 2014. The 2nd album "Virus of the Mind" was released in October 2014, and then a tour with Arch Enemy followed. In 2015 Starkill toured with Sepultura and managed to find time for a headlining tour in China.

In 2016 they toured with Ne Obliviscaris, Dark Tranquility and Epica, as well as playing 70,000 Tons of Metal. On February 2nd they started pre-orders for their third album via an Indiegogo campaign with a goal of $25,000 USD. This record saw the band adding female vocals, signing with Prosthetic Records and releasing Shadow Sleep in November 2016. The 3rd album was tracked and engineered by both Starkill and Charles Macak of Electrowerks Studios, and mastered by Troy Glessner.

The band just finished up a tour supporting Dark Tranquility promoting their new album as well as their first ever headlining run.

Holding On To Nothing

(facebook)

Holding On To Nothing started as five middle-aged guys from bands no one cares about coming together to form a new band that no one cares about. Kind of like Voltron, if no one liked Voltron. Their mission was to create music that reflected their position in the metal scene: tired, depressing, slow, out of touch. Success was had!

Singer Ugly Daughtry (formerly of CTHC band False Hope and a bunch of other projects you haven't heard of/don't care about) wrote and recorded the Demo '15 CD and recruited guitarist Bill Bates (ex-Crossthread), guitarist Worcester Pete Kozlowski (ex-Change Of System), bassist Marc McShane (ex-Tinstar Will/Godsburn) and drummer Chris Lefaiver (ex US Navy) to play live shows. In July of 2016, Pete was lost in a tragic motorcycle accident. After discussing whether to continue or not, it was decided Pete would say "Quit being little bitches." Onward march!

Multi-instrumentalist Rob Birkbeck (ex-Amido Black) stepped up and practice commenced. In July 2016, HOTN entered Studio Wormwood with producer Dave Kaminsky to record the song "Before His Time", a tribute to Pete. The video can be seen on youtube. In November 2016, Rob moved over to drums and Jake Perry (Train Of Thought, Gasoline Therapy) stepped in on guitar.

Holding On To Nothing are a breath of dry, dusty air in a metal scene moving too quickly for them to keep up with. While bands get flashier, more progressive, impressive, and djenty-technical, Holding On To Nothing stick to the old, tired, true power chord monotony of their vaguely remembered youth.

HOTN released a nine-song demo in 2015, and have been featured on the Blasphemour Records Summer Sampler in 2016. A seven inch was recorded in November 2016 and will be released in early 2017.

Awaken the Madness

(facebook)

Awaken The Madness was formed by George (ex-SJS /INABLACKOUT and William (ex-INABLACKOUT.) After their pass former projects came to an end. George brings metal to the masses with the relentlessly pummeling right hand attack of Hatebreed and Metallica.) William's influences bring in classic Iron Maiden and Megadeth style and traditional riffs that are aggressive.

Awaken The Madness influences span a variety of musical genres, from progressive metal to the classic sounds of trash and speed metal. Their sound can best be described as blending classic metal guitar riffs with modern metal core. Often compared to the Deftones meet Iron Maiden. Matt Graves a former member of SJS joined on Drums and Stephen taking the lead vocalist role in what became Awaken The Madness.

Diving Skies

(facebook)

Dividing Skies is a 5-piece experimental metal band formed in 2015 in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Originally consisting of Matt Farias and Thomas Clifford on guitars, Christian Koomey on drums, and Wes Horton on bass/lead vocals, the band added John Krukiel on guitar in the summer of 2016 while Clifford took over the bass/backing vocals.

To categorize this band into one genre would be impossible. With a huge span of influences from fellow Massachusetts bands such as Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, and Unearth, to fairly unique bands such as Twelve Foot Ninja, Stick Figure, and Passafire, the music has evidently become a melting pot of these multi-genre influences.

"We are constantly seeking to provide the most unique and entertaining live show that we can. From breakdowns to jamming reggae sections, we like to have it all"
